Inter Miami signs goalkeeper John McCarthy

MIAMI, Fla. (December 5, 2019) —

Inter Miami CF announced it has signed goalkeeper John McCarthy.

“With John we are adding more talented depth to Inter Miami,” said Inter Miami CF Sporting Director Paul McDonough. “We feel his experience in the USL and MLS will be valuable to our Club.”

Last season, the 27-year-old goalkeeper turned in a great season for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USL Championship. He made 29 regular season appearances and kept 10 clean sheets.

McCarthy makes a save during the Rowdies 1-1- tie with Louisville City in April 2019 in a USL Championship match at Al Lang Stadium in Saint Petersburg, Fla.

Prior to his season with the Rowdies, McCarthy played for the Philadelphia Union, where he made 21 MLS appearances over a span of four seasons. He also made 26 appearances for the club’s USL affiliate, Bethlehem Steel FC, and kept 10 clean sheets.

In 2014, McCarthy played for the Rochester Rhinos in the USL Championship. He was named USL Rookie of the Year, USL Goalkeeper of the Year and USL All-League First Team for that season.

His addition will bring added depth between the pipes for the Rosanegro.
