MIAMI, Fla. (February 4, 2020) —
Rodolfo Pizarro will be the key offensive player and become the starter at the No. 10 spot in the Rosanegro midfield. Pizarro had been linked mostly to the Chicago Fire in this transfer window, but the appeal of a Fort Lauderdale reunion with his former coach at Monterrey, Diego Alonso, was too much to resist.
Miami’s midfield also recently was improved in a trade with the Columbus Crew for midfielder Will Trapp. The midfield will now likely include Trapp, Lee Nguyen, young DP Matias Pelligrini and newly-signed former Celtic winger Lewis Morgan.
Internacional also recently completed a signing for Argentinian centre-back Nico Figal on a deal using targeted allocation money. Figal, who has spent the past four seasons with Independiente in Argentina, named to the Argentina national team last September, although he did not make an appearance.
Miami’s back line will also include former NYCFC left back and Florida native Ben Sweat, former Seattle Sounders centre-back Roman Torres, and former Portland Timbers right back Alvas Powell.
Between the sticks will be former New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles.
