MIAMI, Fla. — (20 May 2020) Jean-Claire Todibo’s day in Matchday 26 in the Reverderby away to Borussia Dortmund:
Todibo started as Schalke’s right-defender in a three-man defensive back line. The young Frenchman looked composed as Schalke competed well and were abe to press high up the pitch in the early stages.
He was soon forced into defensive duties which saw him make an excellent sliding block in the 13th minute to deny what looked like a certain goal as he stretched to keep out Achraf Hakimi’s low ball from under his posts.
In the 25th minute, Todibo clashed with Dortmund’s Erling Haaland in the corner. He was able to force the Norwegian wide, with the striker’s shot hitting the side netting.
However, there was nothing Todibo could do to stop Haaland from opening the scoring a few minutes later as Salif Sane missed the ball as a cross was whipped in from the right. Haaland as should be expected seized the opportunity and converted.

Later in the half, Todibo had difficulties staying with a very quick Achraf Hakimi as he ran down the right, but after coming across the pitch to cover, he did well to put the Moroccan off as his cross came to nothing.
Near the end of the first half, Tobido to a hit to the ankle from Mahmoud Dahoud. It looked like he would need to come off, but the 20-year-old was able to continue – albeit tenderly.
Right on the stroke of halftime, however, Todibo was then left completely exposed after a mistake from Schalke goalkeeper Markus Schubert left to a gift which Julian Brandt gladly accepted, playing a ball to Raphael Guerreiro for the second goal, one of two goals on the day for the Portuguese playmaker.
Todibo was withdrawn at the halftime break by coach David Wagner.
